Frequently Asked Questions

  • What brand of products do you use?
We primarily use Rain Bird products for controllers, rain sensors, sprinkler heads and nozzles. Piping, fittings, and drip irrigation may vary on availability.
  • What is the main cost for an irrigation system?
The primary expense for installing an irrigation system is the labor which makes up roughly 60% of the cost.
  • Can I save money on my irrigation system?
Absolutely. The bulk of the cost for an irrigation system is the labor. If you are willing to grab a shovel and get into it, you can save up to half the installation cost.
  • I want to install my irrigation system, can you help?
Yes. We can help walk you through self installation of an irrigation system by providing things like system design/plans, materials (and some tools), and offering instruction. We do have fees that apply to these services depending on your needs.
  • What are the best lawn watering practices for optimal results?
The best lawn watering practices involve deep, infrequent watering to promote deep root growth and overall health of your grass. It's recommended to water your lawn in the early morning, between 4 am and 10 am, to reduce water loss from evaporation and wind. Using a lawn sprinkler system with adjustable heads can ensure even coverage. It's important to monitor your lawn to avoid overwatering, which can lead to issues such as shallow root growth, fungus, and insect problems.
  • Should I winterize my irrigation system?
Yes, it is highly recommended to winterize your irrigation system to prevent potential damage from freezing temperatures during the winter months. FLAT LINE IRRIGATION offers professional winterization services to ensure that your system is properly prepared for the colder months. Our experienced technicians will efficiently drain the water from the system to prevent freezing, blow out any remaining water from the pipes and components, and make any necessary adjustments to prevent damage. Winterizing your irrigation system with FLAT LINE IRRIGATION will help prolong the lifespan of your system and prevent costly repairs in the future.
  • What is the best way to water garden beds and plants?
We recommend using a drip irrigation system for watering garden beds and plants. Drip irrigation delivers water directly to the root zone of plants, minimizing water waste and evaporation. This method ensures that the plants receive a consistent and controlled amount of water, promoting healthy growth and reducing the risk of disease. Additionally, our team can design and install custom drip irrigation systems tailored to the specific layout and needs of your garden beds and plants. By utilizing a drip irrigation system, you can save water, time, and effort while maintaining a vibrant and thriving garden.
  • When should I turn off my irrigation system
It is best to turn off your irrigation system when the weather forecast indicates rain or if there has been significant rainfall recently. Overwatering can lead to water wastage, root rot, and other issues. We recommend installing a rain sensor in your irrigation system to automatically shut off the system when it detects sufficient moisture. This not only conserves water but also helps to prevent overwatering and potential damage to your lawn or landscape. Our goal is to help our customers efficiently manage their water usage while maintaining healthy and lush lawns and gardens.
